macOS requires the user to permit "Screen Recording" for DisplayLink® driver to work properly. Approving it enables the DisplayLink® driver to access the pixels it needs to render a mirrored or extended screen and send the pixels over USB-A/USB-C, from your computer to the external display.
The user is notified about a need for Screen Recording permission at three places.
- By macOS dialog box on first DisplayLink device plug-in
- By DisplayLink driver on each device plug-in
- By DisplayLink Manager app warning in macOS status bar:
To approve the permission, please follow these steps:
1. Open System Settings (click on the Apple logo)
2. Go to Privacy & Security and select Screen Recording
3. From Screen Recording go to DisplayLink Manager and turn the switch ON
4. Authenticate the changes by using your login details.
5. Click “Quit & Reopen”.
6. Screen Recording has been enabled.
